Dog Training

Dog trainers have different ways and methods to train both dogs and humans! Andy works with the dog/owner he has in front of him as a team, every team is different, but the fundamentals of dog training do not change. You may be looking for a new trainer due to the fact you and your dog aren’t getting the results you were hoping for, or it may be your first time looking for a trainer.

Andy will help you get the results you want by giving you the information and tips required to get the end result. Andy has always grown up with dogs around him and has spent 10 years as a qualified NASDU and NTIPDU dog handler in the security industry. Along the way many mistakes were made, different training methods were tried and tested and by always moving forward and learning what works he has come up with a tried and tested method that he believes in and that is fair and realistic to both dogs and owners.

Andy believes in an unlimited approach to dog training – to be fair to the dog and give them their best chance of a happy life, they need to know when good is good and bad is bad for their safety and yours. Andy does not believe a positive only approach works and believes this can be unfair and more stressful for the dog and owner. Clear, consistent guidance with obligation when required. 80% of training is positive reinforcement and this is the easy part. The hardest part is the final 20% where the dog is proofed to be reliable under ANY situation, this is where 80% of the effort is required to finish a dog off for the real world.

What to expect.

In a private session, Andy will spend an hour with you and your dog. We will focus on your priorities and provide you a way to solve problems or how to give clear direction to your dog. You will be taught how to motivate and engage with your dog.

As an unlimited trainer, Andy provides you with several options to communicate with your dog. Starting by evaluating both you and your dog and the situation you live in. Andy will listen to you as the owners and determine what is working and what isn’t. After gaining a full understanding of how your dog will be living, he will evaluate your dog’s behaviour and temperament.

Andy will find the best ways to communicate with your dog and teach you how to develop a relationship with them. As an unlimited trainer, Andy has access to a wide array of training techniques that we help you to communicate with your dog.

What Are Group Classes?

Group classes (Max of 4 dogs) provides a controlled distraction setting to advance on your obedience skills. Under the watchful eye of Andy, you can teach your dog to ignore competing motivators such as other dogs, people and wildlife.
Is your dog controlled in chaotic environments? Is your dog easily distracted?
A group setting is a great way to work your dog in a controlled chaotic environment under supervision of an experienced trainer to help you through any situation you and your dog might have issues with. It helps your dog learn to pay attention to you in public, busy environments.

What Problems Can This Fix?

Group classes are a great place to teach your dog to ignore other people, dogs and other competing motivators. They can be a controlled environment to work on reactivity, without the worry of being judged or accidentally having a fight. Group classes help dogs navigate hectic situations without losing focus on their owner.

What Can My Dog Learn?

Your dog will learn real life application of training skills. Learning to live cohesively in hectic and stressful environments. Your dog will learn proper socialisation and exposure to new places.

What Does Our Group Class Training Involve?

In this training you will be under the supervision of Andy. You will get the opportunity to learn how to set your dog up for success. Andy provides controlled distractions. Andy also offers 1-1 puppy training classes for those with younger dogs.

Our Simple Process

Upon booking we will inform you of the equipment you will need for the class. From there you will show up to class where Andy will guide you through the exercises of the day. Every week there will be a set number of skills to work on that week. Each week is the building block for the next. Upon completion of the class, you can expect your dog to have worked a number of skills/behaviours. Once your puppy is ready, we can look at meeting in other environments to work under different distractions in different environments.
